Over 20 new projects revealed for DMPED’s March Madness event

It's that time of the year again, the time for Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) to hold their third annual March Madness event. While not related to the NCAA's tournament, it's still exciting—at least for many developers waiting to jump on the change to nab vacant properties in Washington, D.C.

Last year, there were a little over 15 projects announced. This year, there are over 20, spanning throughout almost all of the Wards in Washington, D.C.

According to a presentation hosted by the DMPED, there is currently1.5 million square feet of retail space under construction in D.C. with 800,000 square feet expected to deliver this year. For residential space, D.C. will deliver over 8,200 residential units in 2017, 85 percent of which are apartments. Finally, for hotel space, D.C. is expected to increase hotel room supply by 2.7 percent in 2017 and 3 percent in 2018.

The DMPED's projects:

  • Northwest One, 2 Patterson Street, NE (Ward 6) —New Communities Initiative
  • Lincoln Heights/Richardson Dwellins Master Developer (Ward 7)— New Communities Initiative
  • Eastern Branch Boys and Girls Club, 261 17th Street SE (Ward 6)—OurRFP

The Department of Housing and Community Development's (DHCD) projects:

  • 1414 22nd Street SE (Ward 8)
  • 1615 V Street SE (Ward 8)
  • 1637 V Street SE (Ward 8)
  • 2206 16th Street SE (Ward 8)
  • 1444, 1452, 1454 Alabama Avenue SE (Ward 8)
  • 2352, 2356, 2360 High Street SE (Ward 8)

The Department of Parks and Recreation's projects:

  • East Potomac Swimming Pool, 972 Ohio Drive SW (Ward 2)
  • Edgewood Recreation Center & Park, 301 Franklin Street NE (Ward5)
  • Fort Greble Urban Nature Center, 250 Elmira Street SW (Ward 8)

The Deputy Mayor's Office for Education's projects:

  • Fletcher-Johnson School, 4650 Benning Road SE (Ward 7)
  • Winston Education Campus, 3100 Erie Street SE (Ward 7)

The Office of Public-Private Partnership's projects:

  • Daly Building Police Headquarters, 300 Indiana Avenue NW (Ward 2)
  • Corrections Center, 1901 D Street SE (Ward 7)
