Mayor Gray Welcomes Step Forward in Hill East Projects to Create Quality Affordable Housing

Monday, December 1, 2014
Redevelopment plan also includes new retail and other neighborhood amenities

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today said he was pleased that the D.C. Council recently approved legislation put forth by the Gray administration to pave the way for the redevelopment of two District of Columbia-owned parcels located in the Hill East neighborhood. Passage of the legislation will allow the District to dispose of the property to the development team of Donatelli Development and Blue Skye Development in order to create a vibrant, mixed-income, mixed-use urban waterfront community.

“My administration has worked closely with the community to develop a plan that helps serve the housing and retail needs of the area,” said Mayor Gray. “I thank the Council for working with us to move forward in Hill East.”

Hill East District Waterfront, (formerly known as Reservation 13), is comprised of 67 acres located between the eastern edge of the Capitol Hill neighborhood and the western shore of the Anacostia River. The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) for Hill East District Redevelopment (Phase 1): Parcels F-1 and G-1. The redevelopment plans will feature quality affordable housing, ground-floor retail amenities and parking spaces.
