A new podcast that collects stories from the people who make up #dctech is on the air.

The first episode of DC Tech Stories was posted Wednesday. It’s an interview with Joy Whitt, a program analyst at D.C.’s Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development. She talks to host Jessica Bell talk about how she got started in tech, some open data ideas, social justice and her dream tech event.

Bell, a developer at The Washington Post who also helps organize DC Tech Meetup and DCFemTech, told Technical.ly DC earlier this year that the podcast is aiming to tell stories of people who took nontraditional paths into tech. Whitt’s introduction came through the Tech Lady Hackathon, which she later helped organize.

This is only the first of the season for the podcast, which was voted Best Internet Side Project in Technical.ly DC’s NET/WORK Awards in March. Bell has 10 episodes complete for Season 1, and is working on a second season (Nominate a technologist to be interviewed here). Each episode will be released weekly on Wednesdays, she said.

It’s perhaps fitting that this is the first podcast for Bell, who loves sharing stories of how people entered a new discipline.

“So this podcast was a giant experiment for me and you will see the style change as the season progresses, both in terms of the way I collect audio (eg. audio quality) and my interview style,” she said via email.

In future episodes, she said she digs into questions about what her interviewees like about the D.C. tech scene, and what they think can improve.
