Deputy Mayor Hoskins Announces Short-list of Respondents Competing to Redevelop 8th & O NW

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins today announced that the District of Columbia, through the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), has selected a short-list of four respondent teams to the Request for Proposals for the development of a District-owned parcel at the intersection of 8th and O Streets NW in Ward 6.  The parcel is situated in the heart of the Shaw neighborhood, one block from the Walter E.

Mayor Gray and Deputy Mayor Hoskins Announce Winners of Great Streets Small Business Capital Improvement Grants

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray and Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins today announced the second round of FY2014 awards for the Great Streets Small Business Capital Improvement Grants.  These investments aim to stimulate small business creation, expansion, and retention while also creating new job opportunities for District residents, growing the tax base, and improving commercial vibrancy along the District’s emerging corridors and in surrounding neighborhoods.

Mayor Gray Announces Animation Company to Move to District

Gray today announced that animation company Pigmental Studios, whose animators have worked with animation studios such as Disney, Dreamworks and Pixar, will relocate from Los Angeles, Calif., to open its headquarters in the District of Columbia. Attracting Pigmental Studios is part of Mayor Gray’s mission of creating job opportunities for the city’s indigenous production community. 

Mayor Gray Announces Selection of Team To Redevelop Land Parcel at 5th and I Streets NW

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced the selection of the team of Peebles Corporation and Walker Group to redevelop the land parcel located at the intersection of 5th Street and I Street NW in Ward 6.  Peebles Corporation and Walker Group were chosen as the team’s Best and Final Offer (BAFO) provided the highest monetary value for the land and the most affordable housing units. The proposal also includes a hotel.

Mayor Gray Appoints Chester A. McPherson as Acting Commissioner Of Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced the appointment of Chester A. McPherson as Acting Commissioner of the Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking. McPherson has served as Interim Commissioner since Nov. 17, 2013 and prior was the Deputy Commissioner of Market Operations. He begins his new role today.

Mayor Vincent C. Gray Announces F. Thomas Luparello as Acting Director of the District’s Department of Employment Services

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced today that F. Thomas Luparello will serve as Acting Director of the DC Department of Employment Services (DOES).  Luparello has served as the Interim Director for the agency since January 2014 after serving as the agency’s Chief Information Officer for one year and four months.

Mayor Gray Appoints Kermit Kaleba to Serve As Executive Director of the Workforce Investment Council

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced that he has selected Kermit Kaleba to serve as Executive Director of the Workforce Investment Council (WIC). Kaleba, who has served as interim director following the departure of Alison Gerber in November 1, 2013, begins his new role on Monday, April 21, 2014.
