Mayor Gray Vincent C. Gray Announces Launch of Digital DC

Thursday, March 6, 2014
Marketing initiative aims to promote the District as an innovative and high-tech economy

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray, officials from the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development and the Washington DC Economic Partnership announced on March 5 the launch of Digital DC, a marketing, branding and economic development initiative that aims to promote the District of Columbia as the leading tech community in the innovation and high-tech economy.

“Digital DC gives us an opportunity to showcase to the world why the District of Columbia remains one of the fastest-growing cities for technology companies,” said Mayor Gray. “My administration remains committed to supporting the tech community, and through this initiative we envision a space where tech companies can find the resources and opportunities they need to continue to thrive in the District.”

Digital DC takes a three-pronged approach to marketing and supporting the tech community:

  • The branding campaign will include the launch of a dedicated website – digitaldc.co – branded social media platforms and a series of local and national sponsored events to expose entrepreneurs and investors to the District’s tech talent, customer base, and existing companies.
  • The Digital DC Tech Opportunities Corridor, spans 7th Street NW/New York Avenue NW to Georgia Avenue NW/Kansas Avenue NW and will establish a pipeline and clustered ecosystem of tech talent near the District’s existing tech hub within Gallery Place/Chinatown. This area also provides access to affordable office space, transportation options, and other tech companies.
  • Digital DC Tech Fund (DDCTF) is an entrepreneurial induction program for companies designed to provide training, access to networks, capital, and resources for early-stage tech entrepreneurs along the tech corridor in the District.

Mayor Gray announced the launch at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for WeWork, a co-working company that opened its second location in the former Wonder Bread Factory in Shaw.
