(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins, government partners, and development-team partners today celebrated the grand opening of The Nannie Helen at 4800, a mixed-use development in Ward 7’s Deanwood community. Mayor Gray also provided an update on his commitment to creating or preserving 10,000 affordable-housing units by 2020.
“Opening The Nannie Helen at 4800 is a significant milestone in our continued efforts to preserve and produce affordable housing in the District,” said Mayor Gray. “We thank Capital One for its investment, and we congratulate Tony Wash, A. Wash & Associates and our government partners for their tireless commitment to this project. Projects like this not only increase the number of affordable-housing units available in the District, but contribute to helping neighborhoods like Deanwood thrive.”
Principals from the development partnership, A. Wash & Associates, were joined by Mayor Gray, Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander, Ward 4 Councilmember Muriel Bowser, At-Large Councilmember Anita Bonds, D.C. Housing Finance Agency Director Harry Sewell, D.C. Housing Authority Director Adrianne Todman, and ANC Commissioner Patricia Malloy to formally cut the ribbon on the property.
Since Mayor Gray took office, more than 3,100 affordable housing units have been produced or preserved in the District. Counting other development in the pipeline scheduled to be delivered by 2016, more than 8,200 total affordable units will have been created or preserved citywide under the Gray Administration.
The Nannie Helen at 4800 is a new building that includes 1,790 square feet of retail space, 1,900 square feet for an adult-education and fitness center, 3,438 square feet of office space, and 70 affordable housing units (including one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments) within a five-level, elevator-serviced building. The project also includes 41 residential parking spaces and replacement units for residents of Lincoln Heights.
