(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray today announced that he has appointed M. Jeffrey Miller as the Interim Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED). Miller has served as the District’s Director of Real Estate for the last three years. He replaces Victor L. Hoskins, who will leave June 13 to become Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Prince George’s County, Md.
“Jeff has played a critical role in ensuring that numerous development projects across the city reach completion in a timely fashion and serve the economic needs of our residents,” said Mayor Gray. “Elevating him to Deputy Mayor allows us to continue moving projects forward and completing our key economic-development goals.”
Miller, who will assume his new role June 16, is a seasoned executive with 23 years of experience in banking, finance and real-estate development. As Director of Real Estate for DMPED, he oversees a portfolio of development in the District that includes 39 projects under construction and 44 completed for a total development cost of $6.4 billion. Through key projects such as City Market at O, Progression Place and others in the pipeline, Miller has helped facilitate the creation of 2,714 affordable housing units in the District. Prior to joining DMPED, Miller founded a multifamily real estate consulting and investment firm and led the East Coast multifamily development group of both the Trammell Crow Company and Lowe Enterprises. Miller earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., and an MBA from Rice University in Houston. Miller resides in Ward 2.
