Mayor Bowser, Washington Wizards, and Events DC to Unveil Name and Logo For New G League Team

Friday, December 1, 2017

(WASHINGTON, DC) – On Friday, December 1, at 7:30 pm, Mayor Muriel Bowser, Ted Leonsis, Monumental Sports and Entertainment Chief Executive Officer, and Greg O’Dell, Events DC President and Chief Executive Officer, will unveil the name and logo of the District’s G League basketball team between the first and second quarter of the Washington Wizards basketball game against the Detroit Pistons. Following the announcement, Mayor Bowser, Mr. Leonsis, and Mr. O’Dell will hold a media availability at halftime in the interview room located on the event level at Capital One Arena.
In 2015, the Bowser Administration, Monumental Sports and Entertainment, and Events DC announced plans to build a new state-of-the-art Entertainment and Sports Arena at St. Elizabeths East in Ward 8. The venue will act as home court of the new G League team as well as DC’s WNBA team, the Washington Mystics. The 4,200 seat venue, scheduled to open in September 2018, is projected to produce $90 million in new tax revenue over 20 years, attract more than 380,000 visitors per year, and generate more than 600 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs, giving hiring priority to Wards 7 and 8 residents.
