Mayor Bowser Encourages Residents and Visitors to Support Local Restaurants During Summer Restaurant Week

Thursday, August 8, 2024

(Washington, DC) – Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser, the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, and the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), are encouraging residents and visitors to support local restaurants during Summer Restaurant Week. This year’s Summer Restaurant Week begins Monday, August 12 and goes through Sunday, August 18.

“DC is proud to be home to world-class restaurants and award-winning chefs, and we are grateful for the role that our restaurant and hospitality industries have played in DC’s Comeback,” said Mayor Bowser. “DC’s restaurants are a vital part of our local economy and culture, and we encourage residents and visitors to experience and enjoy the exceptional offerings during Summer Restaurant Week.”

A total of 350 restaurants are participating in Summer Restaurant Week, including 230 restaurants based in Washington, DC. Participating restaurants will offer multi-course brunch and lunch menus for $25 or $35 per person, and multi-course dinner menus for $40, $55, or $65 per person. Many restaurants will also offer cocktail, wine, and non-alcoholic beverage pairings.

“We are thrilled to kick off Metropolitan Washington Summer Restaurant Week, a celebration of our vibrant culinary community and the incredible flavors that make our city unique,” said Shawn Townsend, President and CEO of RAMW. “This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to explore new dining experiences, support local chefs, and create unforgettable memories.”

This year, two DC chefs won awards at the prestigious James Beard Foundation Restaurant and Chef Awards. Michael Rafidi of Albi won for Outstanding Chef, and Masako Morishita of Perry’s won Emerging Chef of the Year. Perry’s is participating in Summer Restaurant Week.
