Interim Deputy Mayor Miller Announces Selection of Team To Develop Parcel at Corner of 8th and O Streets in Northwest

Team of Roadside Development and Dantes Partners wins bid

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Interim Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development M. Jeffrey Miller today announced the selection of the team of Roadside Development and Dantes Partners to develop 1336 8th St. NW, located at the corner of 8th & O Streets in the Shaw/Convention Center neighborhood in Ward 6.  The proposed development will continue the revitalization of the Shaw/Convention Center neighborhood by providing a high-quality mixed-use building that offers residential and retail opportunities in the heart of one of the District of Columbia’s most thriving areas.

“The 8th & O site offers the opportunity to continue the momentum of the revitalization of the Shaw neighborhood, and we are excited to have a development team with a proven track record of developing unique, high-quality projects in this community,” said Mayor Vincent C. Gray. “The development of 8th & O will complement and enhance the City Market at O by providing additional residential and local retail opportunities.”

The Roadside Development team’s plan includes approximately 70 residential units above street-level retail that fronts O Street NW.  The project will be constructed to meet LEED Gold standards. It will offer affordable housing opportunities to District residents and set aside space for use by community stakeholders.  The project will be designed to meet the objectives of the District of Columbia Comprehensive Plan while respecting the existing residential character along 8th Street NW.

“This project will represent the best in neighborhood mixed-use development, in addition to activating an underutilized city-owned site and creating new jobs,” said Interim Deputy Mayor Miller.

The Request for Proposals (RFP) was issued by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) in December of 2013.  Responses were received in March of 2014 and community presentations were made at the end of June 2014.  The District will commence negotiations with the selected team over the next several weeks.
