(Washington, DC) – Mayor Adrian M. Fenty today joined leaders of the Fairlawn and Marshall Heights communities for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of 98-unit affordable housing project in Ward 7.
“This project has been a true partnership,” Mayor Fenty said.”It’s a great example of how we can work together with our nonprofit partners to create and preserve high quality affordable housing in our neighborhoods.”
The Fairlawn-Marshall project is a partnership between The Community Builders, a Boston-based nonprofit housing developer and the District Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), District of Columbia Housing Authority (DCHA) and the Department of Mental Health (DMH).
The $20 million redevelopment project includes eight buildings within the Fairlawn/Marshall Heights community. DHCD contributed $7 million in Housing Production Trust Fund dollars and $1 million in Low Income Housing Tax Credits to help finance the deal. DCHA provided $3.8 million in funding so that 30 units could be reserved for its clients for the next 40 years.
DMH provided an additional $400,000 to reserve 10 units for its clients. The project is completely leased.
