(WASHINGTON, DC) – Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins announced that the District of Columbia, through the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), has released two Requests for Proposals (RFP) for redevelopment of District-owned parcels. 

“Both RFPs offer a tremendous opportunity to the development community to continue the transformation that is happening across the District of Columbia,” said Deputy Mayor Hoskins. “We are confident that both RFPs will draw a qualified development team, and we look forward to an expeditious solicitation process.”

The first RFP is for a parcel of land located in the Shaw/Convention Center neighborhood at 8th and O Street NW in Ward 6 near major thoroughfares, multiple bus stops and a metro station. The total parcel for 8th and O Street NW is just over 13,300 square feet and is currently a parking lot. The District seeks development plans that include, but are not limited to, a mix of uses that are compatible with and leverage surrounding neighborhood development; are responsive to community and stakeholder preferences; and reflect the project's proximity to the Mt. Vernon Square/Convention Center Metro Station as well as other transportation infrastructure.

A pre-response conference for 8th and O Street NW is scheduled to be held Thursday, January 9, 2014. Responses are due by Tuesday, March 4, 2014. After responses are received, a review process will ensue to short-list the respondents as qualified to move forward in the District’s solicitation process for the site or a “best and final” proposal may be requested before a final selection is made. Following this, a developer is slated to be selected by spring of 2014.

The second parcel is located at 1909 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE in Ward 8. Located in Historic Anacostia, this neighborhood is close to the 11th Street Bridge and is one of the District’s oldest and most famous communities. The total parcel for 1909 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE is 5,400 square feet and is designated as an historic landmark. The District seeks development plans that will aide in the revitalization of the historic Anacostia neighborhood. The site, which serves as a gateway into Anacostia and the community’s retail district, is located on a Great Streets corridor and is a short walk from the Barry Farm New Communities Initiative redevelopment area.

A pre-response conference is scheduled to be held Tuesday, January 7, 2014. Responses are due by Thursday, March 6, 2014. After responses are received, a best and final proposal may be requested before a final selection is made. Following this, a developer is slated to be selected by summer of 2014.
