The Department of Employment Services (DOES) offers several resources to help companies reduce the costs of hiring and training new employees.

On the Job Training: A workforce development program that provides employers an opportunity to hire and train individuals to meet their specific workforce needs while giving trainees the opportunity to learn as they earn. Employers can be reimbursed for 50 to 75 percent of an eligible trainee’s wages for up to 1040 hours.

Apprenticeship Program: Work with DOES to develop a customized apprenticeship program and receive up to $5,000 per eligible employee to cover the cost of training.

Work Opportunity Tax Credit: Reduces the federal tax liability of private-for-profit, and in some instances non-profit, employers hiring new employees from eligible target groups who have consistently faced significant barriers to employment.

Employer Services: Services and information for DC employers on topics such as workers compensation and labor market statistics.

Summer Youth Employment Program: Provides District youth ages 14 to 24 with enriching and constructive summer work experiences through subsidized placements in the private and government sectors.
