Jones today in a ceremonial signing of the deed transferring Building 18 at the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center to the District for adaptive reuse as a new fire station.
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Interim Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development M. Jeffrey Miller and DC Innovates today announced grants for eight tech startups through the Digital DC Tech Fund (DDCTF). DDCTF is a catalytic fund that provides grants of $25,000 to $200,000 along with a customized mentorship program for early- and growth-stage technology ventures in the District of Columbia.

Jeffrey Miller today announced the receipt of three responses submitted for the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the redevelopment of the historic Grimke School at 1923 Vermont Avenue NW, and an adjacent District-owned parcel at 912 U Street NW.
The RFP was issued by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development on June 4, 2014. Responses were received on or prior to August 28, 2014. The three respondents to the RFP are:

Gray announced a 10-day trade mission starting Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2014, to the People’s Republic of China, where city leaders will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the District’s Sister City Relationship with Beijing. Leaders will also officially open a DC China Center in the Chinese capital and participate in other key events that highlight economic development, tourism, education, arts and culture.

Office of Planning Director Ellen McCarthy joined with community members today to cut the ribbon on the R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, formerly the chapel on the St. Elizabeths East Campus in Ward 8. The R.I.S.E. Demonstration Center, a name selected by the community, stands for Relate, Innovate, Stimulate and Elevate (Rela8, Innov8, Stimul8 and Elev8).
