Or maybe, given the carefully mounted Iowa basketball posters on his office wall, the District’s deputy mayor for planning and economic development is the point guard, setting the stage for development victories large and small.
Southwest Waterfront Development Hits Milestone

The mile-long development on D.C.'s Southwest waterfront celebrated a milestone on Thursday and announced its first office tenant.
The 24-acre, $2 billion project The Wharf has "bottomed out" with excavation, meaning new construction can begin. The American Psychiatric Association will be the development's first office tenant.

Developers of the District’s Southwest Waterfront successfully convinced operators of a luxury hotel, a slew of restaurants and a 6,000-capacity concert hall to sign on for space in their $1.2 billion project.
What they’ve been missing is an employer willing to relocate its operations there, one with enough workers to generate lunchtime business for the restaurants and create a lively daytime presence on the waterfront boardwalk.
