District Files Eminent Domain at Buzzard Point in Preparation for New DC United Stadium

Today the District of Columbia and DC United released the following statement after the District filed for eminent domain to acquire site control at Buzzard Point in preparation for construction of a new soccer stadium:

“The District of Columbia and DC United are moving forward on a soccer stadium that will transform a neighborhood on the banks of the Anacostia and generate hundreds of new jobs for District residents. We have created the best deal for the District, its residents, DC United and its fans."

D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser went into extra time on Wednesday to meet a major deadline to build a new D.C. United soccer stadium.

Under an agreement with the team, the District had until Wednesday to acquire all of the land for the stadium, even if it meant taking property from a major developer through eminent domain.

D.C. asked the community what it wanted on Parcel 42 in Shaw. This is what they said.

Developers, the door is open again to bid on the District's Parcel 42.

The 17,008-square-foot vacant lot — a D.C.-owned site bounded by Seventh Street, R Street and Rhode Island Avenue NW in the heart of Shaw — was the guinea pig in the city’s “Our RFP” process, through which the community essentially crafts the solicitation that goes out to developers.
