Deputy Mayor Hoskins Announces Departure of Agency Chief of Staff Brian Kenner

Leader poised to transition into local city management in Takoma Park, MD

(WASHINGTON, DC) – Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins today announced that his Chief of Staff Brian T. Kenner has been named as the City Manager for the City of Takoma Park, Maryland.  Kenner has served as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED) since July of 2009. His knowledge of the office portfolio, sound business acumen and leadership capability allowed him to be an asset to the agency, transcending political administrations. 

“The District’s loss is the gain of the City of Takoma Park, Maryland,” said Mayor Vincent C. Gray. “Brian is an astute professional with immense financial expertise and a personality that made him a pleasure to work with on countless projects benefitting the residents of the District of Columbia. No doubt, Deputy Mayor Hoskins will miss his advice and counsel.  I wish Brian the best in his new leadership endeavor.”  

In his capacity as DMPED’s Chief of Staff, Kenner has managed business development, real estate development, administrative, communications, contracting, financial, and legal professionals, among other staff.  Over nearly four years, he served as a critical staff liaison and second-in-command for two sitting Deputy Mayors for Planning and Economic Development, leading the charge on budget and staffing initiatives, office programs and policies and strategic endeavors. While serving in the Gray Administration, Kenner oversaw the staff team that completed the reuse plan for the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center site in Ward 4 and directed staff responsible for the planning and redevelopment of the St. Elizabeths East Campus in Ward 8. 

“During the last 27 months, I have had the honor of serving with one of the finest real estate professionals that I have ever encountered,” said Deputy Mayor Hoskins. “Brian has worked to transform the way we do business at DMPED and in the District. I will miss him.”
