Key development project to further the revitalization of Convention Center/Shaw area

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development Victor L. Hoskins today announced the receipt of six responses submitted for the Request for Proposals (RFP) for the development of a District-owned parcel at the intersection of 8th and O Streets NW in Ward 6.  The parcel is situated in the heart of the Shaw neighborhood, one block from the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, within walking distance of Metro lines and nearby to numerous other public amenities such as the Kennedy Recreation Center.

“The District is pleased to have such strong interest in the continuing revitalization of the Shaw neighborhood as evidenced by the number of teams responding to this development opportunity,” said Deputy Mayor Hoskins. “We know the community will also welcome news that the developer selection process for this key site is moving forward.”

The RFP was issued by the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development on December 12, 2013.  Responses were received on or prior to March 5, 2014.  The six respondents to the RFP are:

  • A&R Development and The Urban Group
  • Four Points LLC and The Warrenton Group
  • Madison Investments and Audubon Enterprises
  • Orr Partners
  • Pounds and Taurus Development
  • Roadside Development and Dantes Partners

The District sought development plans that reflected the importance of the site to the surrounding community and that met the objectives of consistency with the District’s Comprehensive Plan for mixed-use transit-oriented development, high architectural design quality that maximizes density and is economically viable, a residential component containing affordable housing and neighborhood serving retail.
