Construction on the planned Major League Soccer stadium in Washington, D.C.’s Buzzard Point neighborhood is being executive on time and on schedule, according to the Deputy Mayor’s Office for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED).

On Tuesday, the DMPED announced that all pre-construction and infrastructure obligations is now complete for the planned D.C. United Stadium. Construction is now expected to begin this year.

In July, the contractor was chosen for the stadium, being New York-based Turner Construction Co., the same contractor behind the Yankee Stadium. In October 2015, the D.C. government filed for eminent domain for a two-acre site at Buzzard Point that was owned by D.C.-based developer Akridge.

Construction officially began April 2016, according to a press release. Since then, the District worked on preparing the land through above-grade structure demolition, site control, and the removal of outdated utilities.

Once construction is complete, the soccer stadium is expected to create nearly 900 job opportunities for D.C. residents, according to a press release. The stadium is also expected to house approximately 20,000 seats and roughly 4,000 parking spaces. The delivery is slated for the year 2018.
