DC Workforce Development Strategic Plan 2012-2016

DC WIC logo

The WIC has developed a five-year strategic plan for the District's workforce investment system to invest in the skills of District residents and meet the hiring needs of District businesses.

The federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) requires that each state and the District of Columbia submit a state integrated workforce plan to the US Department of Labor that outlines a five-year strategy for its workforce investment system. By law, the WIC is responsible for developing and implementing the District's strategic workforce plan.

Developed in consultation with business leaders, agency partners, and other key stakeholders, the goal of the District's five-year workforce plan is to:

  1. Create a seamless network of services for job seekers and businesses.
  2. Ensure District businesses can access a skilled workforce to meet current and future needs.
  3. Promote the development of workforce skills and credentials to ensure DC residents can succeed in the labor market.
  4. Provide job seeker support needed to ensure all District residents have the opportunity to succeed.
