Application process
The UELIP Application is available here for the Summer 2013 cohort:

- Applicants are required to submit a cover letter and resume, as well as a 3-5 page writing sample
- All applicants must answer the following essay question (300-500 words)
Over the past five years, DCPS has been at the forefront of education reform. What do you see as the most promising reform at DCPS and why? In addition, what do you believe DCPS could do better to close the achievement gap?
- Applicants for the economic hardship stipend must submit additional information (see below)
Selected candidates will be asked to participate in a thirty-minute phone interview.
Stipends
UELIP Associates serve as volunteers in the DCPS Central Office. Associates who demonstrate need may apply for an economic hardship stipend in the course of their application. Stipends will be awarded in amounts up to $500 for the fall and spring semesters, and up to $2,000 for the summer semester.
Applicants for the economic hardship stipend must also do the following:
- Upload a word document answering the following 3 essay questions by the stated application deadline. Each essay should be between 300-500 words:
A) Why do you believe you need this scholarship?
B) What other scholarship avenues have you already (or are currently) exploring?
C) How will doing this internship advance your career goals?
