![]() Barry FarmThe District, in collaboration with the residents of the Barry Farm community, initiated a process to revitalize this public housing site in Ward 8's historic Anacostia area. ![]() Barry Farm Recreation CenterThe Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development is collaborating with the Office of Public Education Facilities to adaptively re-use the old Birney Elementary school as an anchor recreation center for the residents of Barry Farm and the Ward 8 Neighborhood as part of the New Communities Program. ![]() Matthews Memorial TerraceMatthews Memorial Terrace is a development opportunity as part of the Barry Farm New Communities Initiative that will provide high quality affordable housing options for District residents and that will expand mixed-income communities in Ward 8. ![]() Poplar PointPoplar Point is envisioned to be the home of a variety of different uses including residential, retail, office entertainment, cultural, and park/open space uses. Currently, there are no specific figures for the actual allotment of space for the different uses. ![]() Saint Elizabeths East Campus RedevelopmentThe consolidation of the Department of Homeland Security at the Saint Elizabeths Campus and the District’s plan to redevelop the East Campus are both an opportunity to extend that proud legacy and a once-in-a-generation chance for the District of Columbia and the federal government to create well-planned, mixed-use, mixed-income, walkable, livable community. ![]() Sheridan StationSheridan Station is a development opportunity as part of the Barry Farm New Communities Initiative that will provide high quality affordable and market-rate housing options for District residents and that will expand mixed-income communities in Ward 8. ![]() Ward 8 Community SummitOn Saturday, July 9, 2011, nearly 600 Ward 8 residents, community leaders, District officials, and guests joined Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Councilmember Marion Barry, other Councilmembers, and Agency Directors at the Savoy and Thurgood Marshall Academy Sports and Learning Center. At this Ward 8 Community Summit, participants worked together to help shape the future of Ward 8.
